The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a district-wise weather outlook forecasting increased rainfall activity across the State from August 26 to 29, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain expected at scattered locations.
On August 26, localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are expected particularly over Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha, with similar conditions possible in other districts.
Rainfall is expected to become more widespread on August 27, with light to moderate rain likely at most places in Longleng, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang. Localized thunderstorms and lightning with rain are also likely elsewhere.
On August 28, thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain are expected to continue at scattered locations, while light rain may occur at a few places. Rainfall activity is forecast to persist on August 29 in districts including Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
For the five-day period from August 25 to 29, Peren is expected to record the highest cumulative rainfall at 93.83 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 88.83 mm and Longleng at 83.98 mm.
NSDMA advised residents to avoid isolated trees and electric poles during thunderstorms and exercise caution while travelling, particularly along landslide-prone stretches. It urged the public to monitor updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and NSDMA Weather Portal.
