The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed deep outrage and condemnation over the brutal killing of Anjel Chakma, a 24-year-old student from Tripura. Chakma was violently assaulted, beaten, and stabbed in Dehradun on December 9, 2025, and succumbed to his injuries on December 26, after more than two weeks in critical condition. His brother, Micheal Chakma, was also attacked in the same incident.

In a statement, the NSF described the incident as “a cold-blooded racial hate crime” and said the victims were targeted solely because they “looked different” and did not conform to the so-called Aryan racial identity. The Federation condemned the systemic harassment and dehumanization of people from the North Eastern region across India.

The NSF stated that it stands in full solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Tripura, and echoes the condemnation already voiced by the North East Students’ Organization (NESO).

The NSF stated that repeated assurances and guidelines from the Government of India have failed to prevent such crimes, calling the incident “a direct indictment of the Indian State’s failure to protect the people of Northeast.”

“For decades, people from the North Eastern region have been systematically dehumanised, stereotyped, harassed, assaulted and killed in different parts of India. Repeated assurances, hollow statements and cosmetic guidelines from the Government of India have failed to prevent these crimes,” the NSF maintained.

The Federation urged all North Eastern states, student bodies, civil society organizations, and political leaders to unite against racial violence. “The Northeast must unite, speak in one voice and resist being treated as second-class citizens,” it stated. The NSF also demanded immediate intervention by both the Government of India and the Government of Uttarakhand to ensure the safety and security of students and residents from the North East in Dehradun and across the state.

The NSF further called for capital punishment for the perpetrators of the crime, saying that swift justice would set a precedent that racial violence will not be tolerated. The statement concluded, “Justice delayed is justice denied, and the patience of the people of the Northeast is not infinite. We refuse to mourn silently. We refuse to accept racism as normal. Justice must be delivered, accountability must be fixed and racism must be confronted.”

The condemnation statement was signed by NSF President Mteisding and General Secretary Kenilo Kent.
