Nagaland University (NU) celebrated a significant milestone with the inauguration of the permanent building for its School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at the Kohima Campus, Meriema. The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony and unveiling of a monolith.

The function was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Kohima Campus Prof N Venuh, Registrar Dr Abemo, deans of schools, university engineers, heads of departments, faculty, administrative staff, students, and research scholars. Prof Sujata Dash, Dean of SET, chaired the event and welcomed the gathering.

Prof Patnaik described the inauguration as a “momentous moment” for the University in its 30-year history. He recalled the 31st Foundation Day observed on 6 September 2024, when SET officially moved to Kohima Campus after spending 17 years in a temporary building in Dimapur. “A year later, the School’s permanent building is completed. This building is iconic not only for the University but for the State as well,” he said, appreciating the engineers for overcoming the challenges of constructing a six-storied building in the hilly terrain.

Construction of the building began in June 2023 and was completed at a cost of Rs 21.8 Crores under HEFA. The building spans 5,924 sqm, with one department per floor and 25 rooms each, providing ample space for faculty, students, and research activities.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof Dash and the planting of five trees, symbolically representing the five departments housed in the building.
