Meriema, Kohima, 2 December (MTNews): The Nagaland University, Department of Education, Kohima Campus, Meriema, has successfully concluded a ten-day Research Methodology Course for M Phil/PhD/PDF Scholars in Social Sciences on November 30, 2023.

The PRO i/c (Public Relations Officer in charge) informed that the training program was organized by the Department of Education, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema, and sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, Ministry of Education, Aruna Asaf Ali Marg, New Delhi.

Throughout the training program, various topics related to the research process in social sciences were explored, including steps in the process of research, review of literature, variables and their types, hypotheses formulation and testing, tips and techniques of publishing articles in Scopus and Web of Sciences, e-library training with reference to OER & CC, field study research, data collection tools, data analysis and report writing, article writing basics, building blocks and mechanisms, various referencing styles, mechanisms in thesis writing, ICT applications in social science research, sampling procedure and methods, data analysis for social sciences using SPSS & MS Excel (hands-on training), quantitative research-experimental designs, ethics and issues in social science research, qualitative data analysis in social sciences, development of research tools in social sciences, plagiarism in research, grounded theory and ethnography, meta-analysis and article writing, library research sources and e-library training, action research, academic writing, report writing in social science research, place, sources, and issues of research publications, ICSSR data services, and MOOCs in research.

The training involved 31 research scholars from NU Kohima Campus, NU Lumami Campus, NEHU, Bodoland University, Sikkim University, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Assam University, Osmania University, Gandhigram Rural Institute, and more, representing 12 disciplines in social sciences. Participants’ understanding was assessed through pre-tests, post-tests, and activities.
A total of 38 sessions were conducted by resource persons from outside the state, within the state, and within the campus.

The valedictory session was graced by Prof GT Thong, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus; Prof Buno Liegise, Head of the Department of Education; M Rajendra Nath Babu, Course Director, and senior faculty members of NU, Kohima Campus, under the chair of Dr Limala, Co-Course Director.
