The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. JK Patnaik, inaugurated the newly renovated gymnasium at Nagaland University, Lumami, on June 3, 2025, in the presence of HoDs, faculty, officers, staff, research scholars, and students. In addition, the Sports Section, led by Dr Harish Tiwari (DDS), also organised a Yoga and Fitness Competition under the Yoga Sangam Countdown Program of the Common Yoga Protocol, as part of a series of activities leading up to the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2025.


Prof. Patnaik expressed his happiness with the renovated gymnasium and encouraged students, faculty, and staff to make full use of the facilities now available.

The programme was compered by Watimenba Longchar, Sports Coach, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Amritpal Singh (Coach).

Prizes were awarded for various yoga poses under the categories of employees, research scholars, and PG students. In the fitness competition (bench press), the first positions were secured by Prof. Ambrish Singh (Dept. of Chemistry) in the male category and Dr. Manasi Debnath (Dept. of Geography) in the female category. Among research scholars, Raplang (Dept. of Chemistry) and T. Ngipwen (Dept. of Chemistry) won first positions in the male and female categories, respectively. Among PG students, Nosavi (Dept. of Sociology) and Wewu-U Kapya (Dept. of Geography) won first positions in their respective categories.

In the squat competition, winners included: Prof. Ambrish Singh (male) and Dr. Manasi Debnath (female) among employees; Raplang (male) and Manthai (female) among research scholars; and Nosavi (male) and Wewu-U Kapya (female) among PG students.
