Kohima, 21 May (MTNews): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) has strongly supported the letter issued by the Home Commissioner dated 20 May 2024 directing the Director General of Police (DGP) and Commissioner, Nagaland to ensure compliance of the state government’s orders to enforce the banning of unauthorized collection of money by NGOs, etc.

NVCO President Kezhokhoto Savi said in a press release on Tuesday that, as per the said 20 May letter, the DGP and Commissioner must immediately issue instruction to the respective district administration and police authorities for strict enforcement of the state government orders to prevent and curb unauthorized collection of money in the form of taxes, membership fee, donation, charge, levy, toll or any other form of collection of money on state highways, national highways, or market places by unions, associations, NGOs or any other private and community organizations “by whatever name.”

NVCO also said it was surprised to see the statement of Dimapur Municipal Council Employees Welfare Union (DMCEWU), which published in local Dailies on 16 May 2024 requesting the state government to allow DMC to collect urban utility fee/entry fee from all commercial vehicles entering DMC jurisdiction.

NVCO further appealed to the state government to issue a similar order banning the “illegal deduction of public funds especially meant for development in a form of commission/percentage, Party fund, etc which seriously affects the quality of work done by contractors.”

It also said that associations, unions, church organizations, clubs, etc should refrain from “fund-raise by way of selling lottery/moudi/packed fruits, cooked meat/buffet ticket, etc in an expensive manner.”
