In view of the forthcoming NWA 30th Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship and the NWA 1st Under-15 and Provisional Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship 2026, scheduled for March 6 and 7, 2026 at Khuochiezhie, a coordination meeting was held on January 31, 2026 at the NWA office.
The meeting was attended by office bearers of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and representatives of seven provisional NWA units, namely the Lotha Wrestling Association, Sumi Wrestling Association, Pochury Wrestling Association, Rengma Wrestling Association, Chang Wrestling Association, Sangtam Wrestling Association, and Tikhir Wrestling Association.
According to a press statement issued by NWA Joint Secretary Kuzhovesa Soho, for the first time since the formation of the provisional wrestling associations, a separate state-level Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship will be organized for these units. The championship will be held on Day 1, March 6, 2026, along with the Under-15 championship. Each provisional unit will be entitled to field eight wrestlers. The wrestlers will compete under a three-group division system, following the practice of the three NWA-affiliated units. The top four wrestlers, first, second, third, and fourth, will be awarded cash prizes along with citations. All participating wrestlers will also receive cash incentives.
Day 2, scheduled for March 7, will feature the NWA 30th Naga Traditional Wrestling Championship. Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr Neiphiu Rio will grace the championship as the special guest.
The NWA has appealed to wrestling enthusiasts from far and near to attend and witness the event.
Further details of the championships will be intimated in due course.
