In commemoration of World Polio Day, observed annually on October 24, the members of Rotary Club Mokokchung organized a car rally within Mokokchung Town to spread awareness about polio and encourage community participation in the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programs. The initiative aimed to reinforce the message that collective action and awareness are key to eradicating polio.

Rotary International has been a key partner in the global effort to eradicate polio for over 40 years through its support for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). The Rotary Club raises funds, advocates with governments, and mobilizes volunteers to help immunize children and build community trust in vaccination programs worldwide. These sustained efforts have contributed to a reduction in global polio cases by over 99 percent.
Rotary’s involvement began in 1979 with a project in the Philippines, which later led to the launch of its PolioPlus program in 1985. Since then, Rotary has committed more than 2.1 billion US dollars toward polio eradication. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation continues to match Rotary’s contributions, helping to secure additional resources for the cause.
Through collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and various government institutions, Rotary members work closely with local communities to ensure vaccines reach families, including those in remote or conflict-affected areas.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Rotary Club of Mokokchung urged every individual to actively participate in the global mission to eliminate polio from the world.
