Bye-elections to Ward No 9 of the Atoizu Town Council and Ward No 11 of the Chümoukedima Town Council were conducted peacefully on Tuesday, with election authorities reporting smooth polling and no untoward incidents.

In Atoizu, polling was held for Ward No 9 (Samba Ghoki), where voters elected a representative in a straight contest between G. Shikavi Kiba of the Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) and Independent candidate Inaka Z. Chishi.

Election officials stated that polling concluded peacefully and the process was conducted without any disruptions.

Meanwhile, the bye-election to Ward No 11 of the Chümoukedima Town Council recorded an overall voter turnout of 83.60 per cent at the close of polling.

Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chümoukedima, T Lemlila Sangtam, NCS, expressed appreciation to political parties, voters and election officials for their support in ensuring the successful conduct of the bye-election.

She said the democratic principle of “one person, one vote” was strictly upheld throughout the polling process, from the commencement of voting until its conclusion.

Sangtam also thanked polling personnel, security forces, political parties and voters for their cooperation and contribution in making the bye-election a peaceful exercise of democracy.
