“Oshi Yim – The Language Village” premieres at Town Hall Mokokchung
Mokokchung, June 14 (MTNews): A month-long theatre workshop, held from May 16 to June 14, culminated with the premiere of the theatrical piece “Oshi Yim” at Mokokchung Town Hall on June 14. Sangkeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, hosted the theatrical workshop in partnership with Hills Theatre and the Department of Art and Culture, Mokokchung, Nagaland.
One of the resource persons, Jadumani Singh, Director of Blooming Cultural Academy of performing arts and award-winning theatre practitioner, talked at the premiere and stated that many people believe theatre, dance, and music to be entertainment, but he said that theatre is much more than that. He stated that theatre may contribute to the preservation and exhibition of one’s culture and customs.
As the guest of honour at the premiere, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, complimented the Sangkeet Natak Akademi for partnering with local artists to promote theatre and foster emerging talents in Nagaland.
He also stated that performing arts are embedded in every individual and culture, and that they aid in self-realization and self-expression. He went on to say that theatre and performing arts are still in their infancy in Nagaland, and that we should use various types of theatre and art to sensitize and express ourselves.
Bendang Walling directed and developed “Oshi Yim” (The Language Village), with assistant director Kilangtemsu Imsong and Thoudam Victor Singh did the designing.
