Rs 9+ crore Science and Arts infrastructure commissioned under State Plan
The new Science and Arts Block buildings of Pfutsero Government College were inaugurated on June 4 by Nagaland’s Minister for Higher Education & Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, in the presence of MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero.
The new infrastructure projects were funded under the State Plan 2024–25 and the State Plan (HUDCO) 2013–14 respectively.

Speaking at the inaugural program, the Minister appreciated the completion of the Science Block within a record period of two years and expressed optimism that more developmental projects would follow in the higher education sector.
Emphasising the importance of education, particularly science education, he reiterated the Department of Higher Education’s commitment to strengthening the state’s human resources.
MLA Dr Neisatuo Mero, addressing the gathering, called upon teachers to serve as role models for students, noting that students closely observe their teachers’ teaching, behaviour, and conduct.
Earlier, Pfutsero Government College Principal Dr Anungla Pongener highlighted some of the institution’s immediate requirements, including furniture, laboratory equipment, improved road connectivity, student hostels, reliable internet facilities, and additional support for teaching and non-teaching staff.
According to the technical report presented by the Department of NPWD (Housing), the Science Block was constructed at a cost of Rs 470 lakh with a built-up area of 936 square metres. The building houses seven classrooms with an average capacity of 60 students each, along with three laboratories for Biology, Physics and Chemistry, and dedicated rooms for Heads of Departments and faculty of Science departments.
The Arts Block, constructed at a cost of Rs 440 lakh with a built-up area of 856 square metres, contains ten classrooms of similar capacity, along with dedicated faculty and HoD rooms and separate toilet facilities.
Dr K Hukato Swu, Joint Director (Planning & Budget), Higher Education Department, also spoke at the program.
The inaugural plaque was unveiled by Dr Wetsou Medo, Assistant Professor, Department of History, while Rev Dr Neingupe Chiero, Senior Pastor of Pfutsero Town Baptist Church, offered the dedicatory prayer.
The program was chaired by Dr Vizolenuo Sophie, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Neiko Ritse, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Economics.
