The Phek Area Public Organization (PAPO) has called upon all Naga national workers of the Naga National Council (NNC) to unite under “one umbrella and one voice,” urging an immediate halt to multiple taxation by Naga political groups in the larger interest of the Naga people.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, PAPO said it fully upholds the standing resolution of the Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) on the Naga political movement and reiterated its support to the original principles of the NNC, for which, it said, “many patriots have made supreme sacrifices.”
Expressing concern over the proliferation of factions, PAPO stated that the emergence of multiple groups has led to confusion between genuine Naga political organisations and factions formed for vested interests, resulting in “rampant and multiple taxation which needs to be checked.”
The organisation supported the CPO’s call to put on hold all forms of taxation by Naga political groups, while advocating for the principle of “one tax” to safeguard public interest and restore clarity in the Naga political movement.
“Being a part and parcel of the Chakhesang Public Organization, PAPO adheres to the standing CPO resolution to uphold the original Naga National principle of the NNC,” the statement said, referring to the resolutions adopted on May 30, 1990, at Kikruma, and reaffirmed on June 16, 1994.
Reaffirming its political stand, PAPO stated that it continues to support the activities undertaken by the NNC in the interest of the Naga Nation, and called for unity among Naga national workers to pursue the political movement with a common purpose.
The statement was jointly signed by PAPO President Wepelou Mebou and General Secretary Vechizo Khamo.
