Concern over the poor performance of government schools in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations dominated discussions at the monthly meeting of the Phek District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on June 19.

The meeting, chaired by K. G. Kenye, Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs and Chairman of the Phek DPDB, held a detailed deliberation on the factors contributing to the unsatisfactory results.
Senior SDEO of the Education Department, Phek, presented an assessment of the reasons behind the poor performance of government schools in the district. Following the presentation, board members discussed possible measures to improve academic outcomes, including the adoption of schools by DPDB members to provide greater support and monitoring.
Addressing the meeting, Kenye highlighted the significance of the District Planning and Development Board as a platform for bringing grassroots concerns to the attention of the government. He urged departmental officers to attend official meetings regularly and actively participate in discussions to ensure that the needs of the people are effectively communicated.
The minister also briefed members on the state’s financial position and called upon developmental departments to ensure that funds meant for development activities and beneficiaries are utilised judiciously for the welfare of the people.
The board also discussed the installation of a video conferencing facility at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall and recommended the proposal to the government for final approval.
Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Rhosietho Nguori and Census Nodal Officer Er. Mechietsho Koza briefed the board on Census operations and preparations for Census 2027 in the district.
The meeting further reviewed the status of the Pfutsero-Phek road, which is in the process of being handed over from NHIDCL to the state Roads and Bridges Department. Executive Engineers from the Pfutsero and Phek divisions updated members on the latest developments. Kenye informed the meeting that he would approach the government for sanction of funds for the road’s maintenance.
The Departments of Social Welfare and Women Development and Food and Civil Supplies also presented reports on their activities in the district.
