Phek edged past a determined Kiphire side 2–1 in Match 8 of the Dr. T. Ao Trophy Inter-District Football Championship 2025, in a match filled with intensity, cards, and dramatic momentum shifts at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
The match began at a frenetic pace, with both teams determined to seize control early. Kiphire struck first in the 22nd minute when Longtibi found the net in a swift attack. But their lead was short-lived. Phek responded just four minutes later, with Kunuzo calmly finishing inside the box to bring the game level.
After halftime, Phek continued to build momentum, and their efforts paid off in the 57th minute when Eneibe slotted home the eventual winner following sustained pressure and a well-constructed buildup.
Kiphire’s attempt to claw back an equalizer was hindered by a string of bookings and a red card. Abo was sent off in the 61st minute, leaving Kiphire to play the remainder of the match with ten men. Yellow cards were also shown to Mengulhou, Longtibi, and Nyeiwang, while Phek’s Johny was cautioned early in the game.
Despite pushing forward in the closing stages, Kiphire’s rhythm was repeatedly broken by disciplinary setbacks and Phek’s resolute defense, who stood firm to protect their one-goal advantage.
