Under the aegis of the 38 Assam Rifles, Phek Battalion, a 4-day long Inter School Football Tournament for both boys and girls kicked off today at the Assam Rifles ground with Commandant Col. Prasant Singh Chunduwat kicking off the ball as part of declaring the tournament open. The tourney will conclude on 28 October.

According to an update from Assam Rifles, a total of 285 students including boys and girls from 10 different schools of Phek Town, Losami Village and Phek Village and around Phek district are participating in the tournament. The winner and runners-up teams of both Girls and Boys will be awarded with trophies along with cash prizes and sports kits.

The first of its kind in the district, the participating School teachers and students expressed their happiness over the initiative of the Assam Rifles and sought that more of this kind be organized even in the future.

The tournament is aimed to encourage the local populace and students to instill physical fitness and sports in their life which will help them in character building and boost confidence in their life.
