On day eight of the ongoing Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy 2023, fans witnessed two gripping matches, with Sports Society Suyim (SSS) securing a spot in the quarterfinals by defeating Legendary Yeomanly Misfits and Super Seniors clinching their first victory in the tournament against Lomuden FC.
In the first match of the day, the real action unfolded in the second half as SSS faced Legendary Yeomanly Misfits after a lull in the first half. While the two teams were evenly poised with neither team scoring any goal at the end of the first half, the second half saw 7 goals being scored in dramatic fashion.
Suyimmayang opened the scoring for SSS in the 50th minute, setting the stage for an action-packed half. A penalty was awarded to SSS, which Akangkokba successfully converted in the 54th minute.
Yotsase Sangtam of Legendary Misfits found the net for his team in the 67th minute, providing a glimmer of hope. However, SSS’s Temjenyuba added another goal in the 74th minute, giving his team a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Legendary Yeomanly Misfits put up a fight, with Lijungshi Sangtam scoring his brace through a penalty kick in the 79th minute. Nonetheless, SSS’s Temjenyuba also secured his brace in the 84th minute, underscoring their dominance. Limatongzuk capped off the victory with a goal in the 86th minute, confirming their place in the quarterfinals from Pool C. With the 2-5 defeat, Legendary Yeomanly Misfits are out of the tournament with only 1 win from 3 games.
In the second match of the day, Super Seniors came back from a goal down to clinch their first victory in the tournament by defeating Lomuden FC in a closely contested match with a score of 2-1. Imsuonen of Lomuden FC broke the deadlock with a goal in the 78th minute, as the match approached its last quarter.

Super Seniors staged a superb comeback as Temjenmeren scored the equalizer in the 86th minute. He then added another in injury time, in the 90+1 minute, securing their place in the quarterfinals from Pool D along with KSR Team.
