Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the launch of the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan via videoconference, calling it a landmark initiative aimed at driving modernization and progress in Indian agriculture. Modi described the campaign as a “unique effort to support agricultural development” and a key step toward making agriculture the foundation of a developed India.

With the Kharif season approaching, Modi announced that over the next 12 to 15 days, around 2,000 teams—comprising scientists, experts, officials, and progressive farmers—will visit more than 700 districts, reaching millions of farmers across villages. “Under this campaign our team of scientists will go from lab to land providing information about modern agriculture to farmers with all the data to help the farmers before the season starts,” he said.

The Prime Minister emphasized that while agriculture has traditionally been managed by states, rapid changes require a transformation in the sector nationwide. He highlighted the record production achievements of Indian farmers but stressed the need to adapt to evolving market dynamics and consumer preferences. Modi urged collaboration with states and farmers to bring modern reforms, backed by scientific research and practical farming innovations.

“Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan presents a valuable opportunity to bridge this knowledge gap, enabling farmers to benefit from cutting-edge agricultural insights,” Modi stated, underscoring the campaign’s role in accelerating the dissemination of scientific advancements.

Modi outlined several critical government priorities, including ensuring fair prices for farmers’ produce, strengthening the agricultural economy, addressing climate change, conserving soil health, and modernizing farming techniques. “India must not only fulfill its own needs but also emerge as a global food supplier,” he affirmed.

The Prime Minister also highlighted initiatives to increase farmers’ incomes beyond traditional agriculture, such as installing solar panels along field boundaries, expanding beekeeping through the Sweet Revolution, converting agricultural residues into energy, and promoting value addition in agricultural products. He mentioned the Gobardhan Yojana, which helps generate income from non-milking cattle.

“India’s agriculture must become a cornerstone of a developed India,” Modi declared, urging farmers to actively engage with scientists and officials to benefit fully from the campaign. He called upon the teams to go beyond routine tasks and serve with a spirit of national service, addressing farmers’ queries and documenting suggestions.

Concluding, Modi said, “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan will open new avenues of progress for India’s farmers, driving modernization in agriculture,” and extended his best wishes to all stakeholders involved.
