The Pochury Wrestling Association organised and conducted its maiden wrestling championship cum training programme at Meluri on February 26.
A total of 13 male wrestlers from three areas, Meluri, Apoksah and Phoyisha, participated in the championship. Dakoye Sharu of Phoyisha emerged as the champion, while Hamtepa Chutseh of Apoksah and Kutsilo of Phoyisha secured the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
The special guest for the programme was Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, MLA and Advisor, New and Renewable Energy and Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Nagaland. In his address, he acknowledged the formation of the Pochury Wrestling Association and encouraged the wrestlers to inculcate sportsmanship through perseverance and discipline.
The programme was chaired by Er. Joyson Yitsuthu, while Rev. Muloute Nyuwi pronounced the invocation prayer. Greetings were delivered by Shiekhutho, President of the Sports Association Meluri District. In his presidential address, Sipichu Pfithu, President of the Pochury Wrestling Association, highlighted the formation and activities of the association and pledged to promote wrestling in the Pochury area and beyond. Kaison Pfithu, General Secretary of the association, delivered the vote of thanks.
The Pochury Wrestling Association also acknowledged the support of the Chakhesang Wrestling Association for deputing two technical referees, Vekhosazo Dozo and Tavesuh Tetseo, at their own expense to officiate the championship.
