A CCTV footage showing a toddler being slapped by an adult man at a local bakery in Dimapur on October 5, 2025, went viral on social media, creating public outrage. According to local media reports, the man involved is allegedly the owner of City Gym in Dimapur.
Following the incident, sources confirmed that the suspect was taken into police custody on October 6, but officials said that the matter will be addressed by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Both parents of the child have been summoned to discuss the case.
Sources indicated that the child’s parents do not wish to file a First Information Report (FIR), suggesting that the case may be resolved through the CWC’s intervention rather than criminal proceedings.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is a statutory body constituted under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. Its main role is to ensure the protection, care, and rehabilitation of children in need, including cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. The CWC examines cases of children in conflict with law or children in need of care and protection and makes decisions regarding their welfare. It can also direct police, social welfare departments, or other authorities to take specific actions for the child’s safety.
