A pork stall owner in Alongmen Ward was penalized after a customer discovered that 10 kilograms of meat purchased from the stall actually weighed only 8.9 kilograms.
The complaint, received on February 19, 2026, led officials from the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) to conduct an immediate inspection of the stall bearing Trade Permit No. 1864. The shop owner was apprehended, and the matter was taken up at the MMC office for further action.
After due inquiry, the council imposed a penalty by forfeiting the stall’s Rs. 10,000 security deposit as a first and final warning to the permit holder.
MMC emphasized that it takes consumer protection and public trust seriously, directing all traders to ensure their weighing instruments are accurate and free from tampering. Any violation will invite strict action under relevant rules.
Citizens are encouraged to report irregularities to the MMC office to ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability in the market.
