Kohima, March 9 (MTNews): Following the swearing-in ceremony of the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 7, the Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, on the advice of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, has allocated portfolios to the Cabinet Ministers.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been allocated the departments of Finance, Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR), all important policy issues and all other portfolios not allotted to any Minister. Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang has been allocated with Planning and Transformation and National Highways, while Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has been allocated Home and Border Affairs departments.
Nine other Cabinet Ministers including Salhoutuonuo Kruse – who created history as the first woman to be sworn in as a Minister in Nagaland – were also allocated their respective portfolios. (See table)
Further, the Chief Minister has also appointed 24 members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as Advisors to various departments of the government of Nagaland.
In a notification issued by J Alam, Cabinet Secretary on 9 March, it was stated that “this arrangement would help utilize the vast and practical experience of the Members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the benefit of the public at large.”
It said that the Advisors will “render their service on matters that are referred to them by the concerned department for their views and suggestions before the same is put up to the concerned Minister in-charge for decision.”
Further, it informed that the Advisors will not be eligible for any pay, salary, emoluments, remuneration or any perks/advantages of any kind from the government of Nagaland other than what is normally admissible to them as members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly through the Assembly Secretariat.
