Mokokchung | October 11

To commemorate Kichutip Ward’s Silver Jubilee celebration, the Kichutip Ward Council, in collaboration with the Kichutip Youth Association, organized a mass social work on Tuesday where more than 100 ward members cleaned the surrounding areas and ‘repaired’ the main streets in the ward.

The residents patched the approach road from ‘Indian Oil Junction to Kichutip ward road’ and the ‘Arok Salang road’ which stretches from the Indian Oil Junction to Milak Yongpang’ by filling the potholes. Members of the ward also white washed the roadside walls.

One of the youngest wards under Mokokchung town, Kichutip Ward is set to celebrate Silver Jubilee on October 21, 2022 under the theme ‘unflinching unanimity’ with Nagaland Minister Metsubo Jamir as the guest of honor. Kichutip Ward was formed by bifurcating Aongza Ward in 1997.

The ward council and youth members who were engaged in the works today stated that the repairing was done through donations from the ward residents. According to them, the donations for the cause raised more than one lakh rupees.

“We fix the road every year with money contributed by the community,” said one of the ward council members, adding that the road had been neglected by the concerned authorities for the previous five years. “Neither has the department shown concern about the road,” said another.

The council also acknowledged that the issue of poor road condition is now a common problem across Mokokchung district and hoped that the responsible authorities, whoever they are, would perform their responsibilities. “Our only demand is that the relevant authorities perform their duties,” the council members stated.

Meanwhile, the Kichutip Youth Association has requested the authorities that the road be repaired as soon as possible.
“The road has been neglected for long, and it is our earnest request that the concerned department may look into repairing this road as soon as possible because we all know that, right now, we have fixed the potholes only with mud and stones, which will not last long,” they added.
