The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is set to embark on a three-day visit to Meghalaya and Assam from 15 to 17 January 2024, a PIB report said. The visit is poised to encompass a series of engagements aimed at promoting community development, infrastructure enhancement, and cultural celebration.
On January 15, President Murmu is scheduled to inaugurate the Meghalaya Games at the PA Sangma Stadium in Tura. The event is expected to showcase the sporting prowess of the state and encourage a spirit of athleticism among the youth.
Moving forward, on January 16, the President will address members of Self Help Groups at Baljek Airport in Tura. Additionally, she will virtually lay the foundation stone for the new Integrated Administration Complex, contributing to the modernization of administrative facilities in the region. Later in the day, President Murmu will address a gathering at Mawphlang, where she will virtually inaugurate the upgraded Rongjeng Mangsang Adokgre Road and Mairang Ranigodown Azra Road. Furthermore, she will lay the foundation stones for the Shillong Peak Ropeway and tourist accommodations in the villages of Kongthong, Mawlyngot, and Kudengrim. The evening will culminate with the President attending a civic reception hosted by the Government of Meghalaya in her honor at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong.
Concluding the visit on 17 January, President Murmu will be a distinguished guest at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangso, Diphu, Assam.
