The Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), Mokokchung today held its 2nd Science Exhibition under the theme “Sustainable Technology” at the school premises.
Expressing gratitude to the science department for organizing the event, Rev Father Sajimon, Principal of QMHSS hoped that the exhibition aimed to inspire teachers and students to generate ideas and solutions for addressing natural challenges. He further emphasized the importance of the theme, noting that sustainable technology is central to our existence.
Sentinenla DEO, Mokokchung in her keynote speech called the school as the “pride of the district”, highlighting its achievements in the HSLC and HSSLC examinations. ”In Mokokchung town, there are very few science students,” said Sentinenla, noting that many students choose to study science outside the district after their HSLC examinations.
Noting there are only three institutions in Mokokchung that offers science stream – Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School, and Senayangba Higher Secondary School – she encouraged private schools to introduce science streams to foster greater interest in science among students.
Speaking on the theme, she highlighted the interrelation between sustainable development and sustainable technology on a global scale, mentioning the United Nations’ goal to achieve sustainable development by 2030. She noted that 2024 has been declared the Year of “Green Technology” and explained that sustainable technology includes solutions for IT infrastructure, such as waste management recycling, solar energy, and water treatment. She urged everyone to adopt these technologies and methods to drive positive societal change.
She encouraged efforts to conserve ecosystems, maintain biodiversity, and support sustainable development stating, “When implemented, they can bring prosperity, peace, and well-being, positively impacting the economy, society, and sustainability and guiding us towards a balanced future.”
The science exhibition was divided into five categories: Category A for classes 4, 5, and 6; Category B for classes 7 and 8; Category C for classes 9 and 10; Category D for science stream and Category E for arts stream.
The judges were Aotsungba, Aosanen, Dr Aotemshi, Dr Aolemla Pongerner; and Dr Sanentiba.
Three winners were selected from each category. The students exhibited models of drip irrigation system, agriculture technology, rainwater harvesting, organic products, eco-friendly houses among many others.
Students from Jubilee Memorial School, Town Higher Secondary school, Soul House Academy and Eden Academy were also invited.
