The Transport Department of Nagaland has issued revised guidelines for the “Rah Veer” Award, formerly known as the Good Samaritan Award. The updated scheme came into effect on April 21, 2025, and includes an increase in the award amount from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000.
The “Rah Veer” Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exemplary courage and selflessness in helping accident victims or others in distress. The scheme will continue until the end of the 15th financial cycle, March 31, 2026.
In a letter dated May 19, 2025, the Office of the Transport Commissioner, Nagaland, urged officials to follow the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ guidelines (No. RT 25035/27/2021-RS) and actively disseminate awareness of the scheme within their respective jurisdictions.
Er Neithozo Theunuo, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung emphasized the importance of spreading knowledge about the award to encourage more citizens to act as Good Samaritans.
The increase in the award amount aims to motivate and acknowledge the brave acts of individuals who contribute to saving lives and assisting in emergencies on Nagaland’s roads.
