Mokokchung, 19 August (MTNews): Red Ribbon Club, Fazl Ali College (FAC) organized an awareness program on 19 August for the First Semester students with Dr Kilangwapang, Medicine Specialist, Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital, Mokokchung as the resource person. The program was organized to sensitize and educate the young people who are considered to be more prone to the disease.
On the occasion, the Vice Principal, Mr Vinod Kumar gave a warm welcome note and I Yashikala Jamir, Nodal Officer, RRC highlighted the purpose of the formation of RRC and the initiatives undertaken to spread awareness in sensitizing and educating the young minds about HIV/AIDS.
The Resource Person Dr Kilangwapang highlighted how the HIV/AIDS pandemic has been around for more than forty years and, because of high mutation of the virus being one of the reasons, a vaccine has not been found. He emphasized on the symptoms, ways to prevent the disease, and encouraged not to discriminate or stigmatize the infected people.
He also asserted that this incurable infectious disease is easier to be transmitted from a male to female and that young females are more vulnerable to acquire the disease/virus. However, despite all its woes, he ended with a positive remark that with the availability of medicine/drugs, HIV patients can still live a normal life.
The Principal of FAC, I Wati Imchen on the occasion gave away the prizes to the winners of painting and essay competitions which were initiated by RRC as part of the awareness program.
