A two-day refresher training for Malaria Technical Supervisors, organized by the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), was held at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare from March 18 to 19, 2025.


Speaking as the resource person on the topic “National Framework for Malaria Elimination 2016-2030,” Dr LA Singh, Senior Regional Director, Imphal, emphasized the importance of pre-planning for surveillance and case investigation in the event of an epidemic. He stated that a rapid response team should be stationed at the district headquarters to oversee surveillance in both urban and rural areas. Additionally, Dr Singh stressed the need for a contingency plan to effectively manage such situations.

He also explained the malaria control program in India, the types of malaria parasites, the life cycle of the malaria parasite, the asexual cycle in humans, the hepatic phase, erythrocytic phase, gametogony, the spread of malaria, the sexual cycle in mosquitoes, immunity to malaria, malaria control, diagnosis, and treatment (PV/PF/Mixed). Dr Singh described measures directed against transmission by mosquitoes, transmission dynamics, vulnerable groups, malaria and gender, surveillance, LQAS, and the malaria case investigation form.

Imsubenla, Public Health and Training Consultant, provided insights on recording and reporting, as well as the IHIP VBD portal on malaria and dengue, while Thungchio Y. Enny, Senior Pharmacist and M&E, emphasized procurement, supply chain management, and the Drugs and Vaccine Distribution Management System.

Ngangnenmongba, M&E Consultant, elaborated on financial aspects, while Wapangsungla Longkumer, IEC/BCC Consultant, highlighted the importance of information, education, and communication activities.

Venezo Vasa, Biologist and Acting Senior Entomologist, along with Atuonuo Rupreo, Entomology Consultant, provided explanations on malaria entomology.

Additionally, a practical session was conducted by Anungla, Laboratory Technician, covering Rapid Diagnostic Tests and Blood Smear Preparation.

The introductory session and welcome speech were delivered by Dr Neisakho Kere, Joint Director & SPO. The training was attended by 69 MTS from all districts.
