Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, visited Sainik School Punglwa on September 5, 2024, marking his first visit as both an MP and a Member of the Local Board of Administration (LBA) for the school. During the visit, the Principal, faculty, and students hosted a warm reception and briefed the MP on several critical issues requiring urgent attention.

The key concerns highlighted were the immediate need for maintenance of the old infrastructure to ensure safety and functionality. The school also sought an increase in the annual state government grant from Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 1 crore to support its sustenance and maintenance.

It was said that due to a lower-than-expected intake of cadets from Nagaland, financial challenges have been exacerbated, putting additional strain on resources.

Transportation issues were also highlighted as a significant concern due to the school’s remote location, which affects both students and staff. The institution also suffers from poor communication and internet connectivity, impacting academic and administrative functions. Regular power fluctuations, often due to inclement weather, disrupt daily activities.

Additionally, it was reported that the internal roads within the school are in poor condition and require urgent maintenance, with frequent damage from landslides. There is also a lack of modern sports infrastructure, which hampers cadet training and overall physical development.

MP Jamir assured the school of his commitment to addressing these issues and called for swift action from both state and central authorities to resolve the concerns and improve the school’s operational conditions.
