Impur, January 30 (MTNews): ABAM Sunday School curriculum titled, “Salvation Story” Grade 1-15 was released on January 28, 2022, at Impur by Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM,in the presence of around 400 members from 115 local churches  comprised of Associate Pastor Christian Education and Sunday School teachers, a report from ABAM Impur said.
“It was in 1878 that, Mrs. Mary Mead, with a transformative vision, started functioning Sunday School in the local churches. Since then, for more than one hundred and forty years, ABAM had been using resources from different Christian publications and is prolifically blessed with,” said the report. However, during the 2016 ABAM General Council, the house resolved to have an original Sunday School curriculum. “Upon the resolution, Literature & Education Ministry, ABAM took the initiative with Mr. Chubatemjen, Coordinator, Sunday school, ABAM, spearheading a team of 16 member-writers who without any attrition worked day and night out to complete these Grade 15 curriculum,” the ABAM report said. It was reported that the curriculum was written in three perspectives, “text, context, and tradition to serve maximal approach for all age groups.” It was also stated that spelling corrections were done by Imsüsashi Pongen and all graphic designs were done by Onen Atsongchanger. “ABAM is immensely pleased to have an original Sunday School curriculum from 2022, and we owe a lot to all individuals involved in this project. We also give thanks to God for availing us of the good leadership of Mr. Chubatemjen, Coordinator of Sunday School, the curriculum designer and editor, and his team for making a milestone in the history of ABAM. As the local churches begin to use the new curriculum from now on, we look forward to seeing many changes in the lives of the believers,” the report said.

“Sunday School is the Heart of the Church”

Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM, in his speech while releasing the new curriculum said that James 3:1 depicts the accountability of teachers. “Therefore, every teacher need to make sure that every student is on the right track and that you are leading them to the true Christian destination,” he exhorted. He also encouraged the teachers and illustrated that students will come to the Sunday School in various moods, “and as teachers of the Salvation Story, may Jesus be seen in your life by every student so that they go home with joy and happiness.”
During a welcome address at the introduction of the curriculum program, T. Apok Jamir, Secretary, Literature & Education, ABAM, said that Sunday School is the “heart of the church,” and that Sunday School teachers need to consider themselves special and teach with dedication.
Alice Walling, Associate Pastor, Christian Education, Kohima Ao Baptist Church in her sharing said that so many changes in the world were caused by the Sunday School program and that the same was hoped for from today’s Sunday School teachers.  
Anungba Imsong, Pastor, Medziphema Town Ao Baptist Church, opined that as specially chosen ones, every teacher need to realize that the outside classroom character is vital to be influential. 
The ABAM report also expressed gratitude to Changtongya Town Baptist Church Christian Education Ministry for leading the praise and worship and Tuli Lenten Baptist Church Christian Education Ministry for doing the work of stewardship.
