The Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU), the principal student body representing the Seyochung area, has strongly condemned what it called the “inaccurate and misleading use” of the term “Sangtam” in recent media reports issued by federating units of the Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students’ Union (ENSSU).
In a statement issued by SASU President Muwali T Sangtam and General Secretary Vitsala S Sangtam, the union said the misrepresentation was in relation to the recent incident involving the removal of ENSSU placards at SASU headquarters in Seyochung Town.
“We want to make it unequivocally clear that no organization named ‘Seyochung Area Sangtam Students’ Union’ exists, either within our area or under the United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC),” SASU stated. “The propagation of this incorrect name not only spreads falsehoods but also breeds unnecessary public confusion and misunderstanding.”
SASU has demanded that “the individuals or organizations responsible for this error issue an immediate public clarification,” and asserted that “all official complaints or communications concerning our region must be channeled through the proper and sole authority, which is the Seyochung Area Students’ Union (SASU).”
The union further challenged “any entity claiming to be the ‘Seyochung Area Sangtam Students’ Union’ to appear before our office without delay to provide the necessary clarification.”
Reaffirming its stand, SASU said, “We stand firm in our mission to uphold the unity, identity, and peaceful coexistence of all communities in our area. We urge all parties to cease such misrepresentations and exercise due diligence in their communications going forward.”
