The Seyochung Village Students’ Union has appealed to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kiphire, Nagaland, requesting an upgrade of the Health and Wellness Centre (HWC) in Seyochung Village. In a letter, the union expressed concerns over the current condition of the centre, following their visit on September 30 to assess the situation.
The letter noted that the centre is currently staffed by only one Community Health Officer (CHO) and one Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), which the union deemed “insufficient to handle the growing healthcare needs” of the village. Additionally, the CHO reported a shortage of essential medical instruments and first aid kits, further hindering the centre’s ability to provide adequate care. While supplies are provided by the CMO’s office, they are described as “inadequate for meeting the daily requirements.”
The union also emphasized the population size of Seyochung Village, stating it has the largest population under the Seyochung ADC Headquarters, surpassing even Seyochung Town. Despite this, the village “continues to receive minimal medical support,” a situation that has prompted the union to call for the HWC to be upgraded to a Primary Health Centre (PHC), it said. This upgrade, according to the union, would “greatly enhance healthcare delivery” and meet the needs of the growing population.
The Seyochung Village Students’ Union also urged the CMO to “take necessary action” to improve healthcare infrastructure in the village for the welfare of its residents.
