In what could possibly be the first time in the history of football in Nagaland, the ongoing Dr. T. Ao Trophy Inter District Football Championship 2022 is being broadcast with live commentary online.
SportsCast India, a Delhi based media and broadcasting company is streaming the matches live on its YouTube channel. SportsCast India aims to promote local sports and athletes by telecasting regional tournaments and games live.
SportsCast India representatives are camping in Mokokchung to broadcast the matches of the tournament, reportedly “free of cost, in a mutual understanding to promote Nagaland Football and promote their brand on YouTube.”
Vice president of Nagaland Football Association, Kiyeka Sumi, when Mokokchung Times asked him why such broadcasting was not done before, admitted that they had “no professional contacts and knowledge about the said broadcasters.” Palani, a representative of the broadcasting team, told Mokokchung Times that they were satisfied with the number of views they have received since the tournament began.
The Mokokchung-Kohima match on day 2 drew more than 6000 live viewers online which, he said, was the highest number of online views so far. Video of the second day’s matches on their YouTube channel was viewed more than 1.1 lakh times till the time of filing this report.
