The State Election Commission of Nagaland has announced amendments to the upcoming Municipal and Town Council elections schedule originally notified on April 29, 2024.

The decision to modify the election schedule comes in light of concerns raised regarding the limited time available for logistical arrangements post the withdrawal of candidature. Recognizing the need for adequate time to undertake essential preparatory works, the State Election Commission invoked the provisions outlined in Section 31(1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2023, in conjunction with Rule 20(7) of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023.

As per the revised schedule, the deadline for filing of revision applications and their disposal has been set for June 15th, 2024, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature has been extended to June 18th, 2024, until 3 pm. Subsequently, the list of contesting candidates and polling stations will be posted on the same day after 3 pm.

All other dates specified in the original Election Program remain unchanged, ensuring continuity in the electoral process.
