Mokokchung, October 26 (MTNews): The IMDH Mokokchung on October 26 conducted a one day orientation workshop on community linkages cum launching of Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) scheme.

 

 

 

SUMAN Yojana or Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan Yojana is a maternity benefit initiative launched by the Ministry of Union Health and Family Welfare which provides affordable and quality healthcare solutions to pregnant women and newborns. Under this scheme, pregnant women, sick newborns, and mothers receive zero expense access up to six months after delivery. They receive treatment from quality hospitals and professionals.

 

During the launching of SUMAN, Chumlamo Humtsoe, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, lauded the Central Government for initiating SUMAN scheme and hoped that the package will be a blessing to both the mothers and infants in the district and wished it a grand success.

 

He motivated the health workers to serve the real purpose and achieve the target of reducing maternal and infant mortality. He also encouraged the participants to sensitize and spread awareness through different health units and platforms to reach every nook and corner so that the needy can avail the facilities provided under the scheme.

 

Through a PowerPoint presentation, Dr. Supongmeren, Sr. Specialist, Obs & Gyn, IMDH Mokokchung highlighted the participants on the vision, goal and objectives of SUMAN. Through the presentation, he enlightened that SUMAN aims to achieve zero maternal and infant death through quality care.

 

Dr. Marina, Medical Superintendent, IMDH Mokokchung in her welcome address stated that the objective of SUMAN cannot be achieved by the Medical Department alone, but with the co-ordination of allied departments.

 

Dr. Limatula Aier, Chief Medical Officer, Mokokchung thanked all the representatives from allied departments and Chairman of All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT). She further encouraged all the participants to carry the message and disseminate the correct information on SUMAN to the community. In regard to awareness of the scheme, she added that each department has a role to play in propagating SUMAN to the grass root level.
