The Sümi Baptist Church Kohima (SBCK) held a pre-centenary celebration on Sunday, marking a key milestone ahead of its centenary scheduled for November 8-9, 2025. The occasion honored the foundational figures—Pastors, Deacons, and missionaries—whose dedicated service has shaped the church’s legacy since its establishment in 1928.

A central highlight of the celebration was the formal recognition of 31 Pastors who have served the SBCK faithfully from its early years to the present day. Alongside the pastors, the church honored individuals who served as Chairmen of the Board of Deacons. These leaders were recognized for their crucial role in overseeing the material welfare, administrative duties, and spiritual health of the congregation. Their dedication ensured the effective functioning of the church over the decades.

Speaking at the event, Kughazhe Yepthomi, former Chairman of the Board of Deacons, emphasized that the SBCK has always stood on “Unwavering Unity,” a principle foundational to overcoming historical challenges. He recalled the church’s early tenacity, citing the establishment of the Dak Lane ward during British rule and its subsequent development.

The program was led by Dr. Kitoshi Zhimo, Associate Pastor, and featured rich musical contributions from Male Voice, True Vine, Lokivi Lejo, and Living Witness groups, blending contemporary worship with historical reflection.

Rev. Dr. Yehevi Jimo

Rev. Dr. Yehevi Jimo delivered a powerful message on the biblical concept of Jubilee, centering his teaching on Hebrews 4:12: “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” He highlighted the Word of God as essential for personal transformation and spiritual restoration.

Evening worship featured Rev. Dr. Hotokhu Zhimo, former Acting Pastor, exhorting missionaries and encouraging continued mission work. Mr. Shivito Wotsa, former Chairman of the Board of Deacons, reflected on the church’s response to the Great Commission, including the establishment of the first Baptist Church in Nepal. SBCK-sponsored missionaries were formally honored for their dedication and service.
