New Delhi, December 8 (MTNews): Minister of State for Jal Shakti, Prahlad Singh Patel in a written reply in Lok Sabha today said that under Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) Scheme, the total number of schemes taken up by Nagaland was 917 out of which by March 2022, 497 schemes were completed.

 

The main objective of SMI schemes is to expand cultivable areas under assured irrigation. Under Surface Minor Irrigation (SMI) Scheme, financial assistance is provided to the identified minor irrigation (irrigation potential less than 2,000 hectare) projects in respect of special category States.

 

It was informed that Central Assistance Released was Rs. 404.99 crore and the expenditure recorded was 348.55 crore while the potential it achieved was 24.85 thousand hectare.

 

The SMI scheme has also been extended to areas covering DPAP, Tribal, DDP, Flood prone, Left Wing Extremism and Koraput, Bolangir and Kalahandi (KBK) region of Odisha, Bundelkhand region of UP and MP and Marathwada, Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

 

Presently the scheme is also part of Har Khet Ko Pani (HKKP) component of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY).
