Two minor fire accidents occurred in Mokokchung on the night of 18 May, both of which were extinguished promptly by the Fire and Emergency Service (NFES) personnel. The first incident happened at Dr Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH), while the latter occurred at the unoccupied Youth Hostel of the Youth Resources & Sports department near Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
The Officer in Charge (OC) of Mokokchung Fire and Emergency Services told this newspaper that one tender each from Fire Station Mokokchung North and South responded and controlled the fire. According to the OC, there was apparently a short circuit in one room in the hospital.

Elaborating on the incident, one of the officials of Mokokchung Fire and Emergency Services narrated that the Fire Station Mokokchung North (Sungkomen) received information about a fire incident at IMDH at 7:50 pm.
“Our unit reached the spot by 7:54 or 55 and very soon even the South counterparts joined us,” the official said, adding that the fire was successfully controlled.

Meanwhile, an official from the Fire Station Mokokchung South (Marepkong) said, while extinguishing the fire at IMDH, they received another message from the Police Station about a fire accident in an “abandoned building” (Youth Hostel) near Imkongmeren Sports Complex. Accordingly, the fire squad from the Fire Station Mokokchung North (Marepkong) immediately controlled the fire. Later, the south team joined them.
Both incidents were confirmed to be minor.
The Medical Superintendent of IMDH confirmed to the Mokokchung Times that a minor fire accident happened in the ‘Dialysis storeroom’. When asked about the cause of the fire, she informed that it is yet to be ascertained and can be divulged only after a thorough investigation.
