The action at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 continued at the Maharana Pratap College Ground in Dehradun as Nagaland took on the cricketing powerhouse, Karnataka. In a one-sided encounter, Karnataka showcased their dominance, securing a convincing 9-wicket victory.

Nagaland’s misfortune began early in the game as they were sent in to bat after losing the toss. Facing the relentless onslaught of Karnataka’s bowlers, Nagaland struggled to find their footing throughout the innings. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and the team managed to post a mere 68 runs on the scoreboard. The experienced duo of Hokaito Zhimomi (17 runs) and Jaganath Sinivas (11 runs) were the only players who managed to reach double figures. Karnataka’s bowlers, spearheaded by their relentless pace and spin attacks, dismantled Nagaland’s batting order with precision.

Chasing a modest target of 69 runs for victory, Karnataka displayed their class and efficiency. Devdutt Padikkal led the charge with a stellar 31-run innings, well supported by Mayank Agarwal’s 19 runs and KL Shrijith’s 8 runs. The Karnataka batsmen easily reached the target in just 7.5 overs, securing a resounding 9-wicket win over a clueless Nagaland.

A consolation for Nagaland came in the form of Honpongkyu Sangtam, who managed to dismiss Mayank Agarwal by taking a sharp catch and delivering a successful caught-and-bowled attempt.

Nagaland’s next challenge will be against Tamil Nadu, another cricketing powerhouse of the country. Cricket enthusiasts can catch all the live action as the match is scheduled for 27 October 2023 at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun, starting at 11:00 AM IST.

The match will be broadcasted live on Jio Applications and the Sports 18 channel.
