The Tata Group has secured the title sponsorship of the Indian Premier League (IPL), India’s domestic T20 tournament, for the next five years, spanning from 2024 to 2028. In a historic deal, the conglomerate has committed a record sum of Rs 2,500 crore (approximately US $300 million), marking the highest sponsorship amount in the league’s history. Tata Group served as the title sponsor for the 2022 and 2023 seasons, taking over from the 2021 season sponsor, Dream 11.

IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal expressed the significance of the collaboration, stating, “The collaboration with Tata Group for the title sponsorship of IPL 2024-28 is a significant milestone in IPL’s journey.” He highlighted the record-breaking nature of the INR 2,500 crore deal, emphasizing the immense value and appeal of the IPL in the global sports arena.

Previously, Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo held the title sponsorship rights from 2018 to 2022 for INR 2,199 crore (approximately US$280 million at the current currency exchange rate). However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the parent body of the IPL, severed ties with Vivo in 2020 due to political tensions between India and China. Dream 11 stepped in as a replacement for the 2021 season before the Tata Group took over for the subsequent two-year period from 2022-2023.

Beyond the IPL, Tata Group is also the title sponsor of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), a sister tournament of the IPL that commenced in 2023.

The IPL 2024 is scheduled to take place from March 22 to the end of May, followed by the T20 World Cup in June.

  3. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
