The Department of Health and Family Welfare presented a PowerPoint on Nikshay Mitras under the TB Elimination Programme during the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting held on 12 September at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mokokchung.
District TB Officer Mokokchung, Dr Toshila Jamir, reported that 174 TB patients in the district are currently in need of Nikshay Mitra support. She explained that Nikshay Mitras can include individuals, NGOs, cooperative societies, or political parties. A Mitra may adopt at least one TB patient undergoing treatment for a minimum of six months and provide any form of support to aid the patient’s recovery.
Adoption of TB patients by officials
MLA and DPDB Chairman, Nuklutoshi Longkumer, urged members to step forward and adopt at least one TB patient each. Setting an example, he announced the adoption of five TB patients. The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, also committed to adopting five TB patients. It was further decided that the participation of departments in the district as Nikshay Mitra donors would be reviewed at the next DPDB meeting.
Update on border situation
In response to a query from the DPDB Chairman, Additional Superintendent of Police Mokokchung, Y Tumchobemo Yanthan, briefed members on the situation in the border areas of Assam and Nagaland. He informed that initiatives by the District Administration and Police are ongoing and that status quo has been maintained, keeping the situation under control.
Directive to Heads of Offices
Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma directed all Heads of Offices in the district to regularly visit their subordinate offices in the blocks and subdivisions. He stressed that such visits would help build confidence, improve coordination, and provide firsthand knowledge of challenges faced by field offices. The DC reminded Heads of Offices that they will be required to submit annual reports on such activities in the future.
Discussion on Dr T Ao Trophy
The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) presented an agenda seeking financial and logistical assistance for hosting the 25th edition of the Dr T Ao Inter-District Championship 2026. The DPDB Chairman noted that necessary steps, including approaching relevant departments, would be taken after a detailed study.
Other agenda items discussed during the meeting included information from the District Planning Officer regarding the constitution of the Verification Committee for LADP 2025–2026. The board also considered the proposal to change the nomenclature of Rajeshwari Karina School, Tuli, to Royal Knight School, Tuli, and decided to forward it to the higher authority for approval. In addition, the Department of Agriculture was entrusted with preparing the PowerPoint presentation for the next DPDB meeting.
