Oak Junction is owned and managed by Mesutenba Longkumer of Longkhum village since 2019 after taking inspiration from his father, Pangtinokdang, who, according to Aten, was his greatest support during his journey.
Aten, a former employee of ICICI Bank, after leaving his job, ventured into his entrepreneurial journey on realizing how popular the current ‘Oak Junction’ location was with the locals.
Despite having no oak trees in the spot, he said he decided to christen it as ‘The Oak Junction’, because of the spot’s historical attachments with oak trees in the past. According to him, in the past, the Britishers planted a lot of oak trees in the area, and it was only during the recent developments that the oak trees were cleared off.
Speaking about the performance of his business, he mentioned how, initially, most of the guests he had entertained, were wedding guests but now, picnickers in the form of family and friends have become more frequent.
On being asked about the services and facilities he provides, he said, “firewood, water and utensils” are being offered to those who wish to camp and cook for themselves.
“I’m just starting out but there are lots of things in my head that I’d like to pursue,” he said.
Expressing how lucky he is to have this land, he shared his hopeful aspirations to turn it into a resort someday, while adding more hotels and menus in the long run.
