“The Spectrums” is a newly formed five-member female rock band from Mokokchung, formed on 22nd May, 2022 comprising of Imkum Ozukum on the vocals, Anen and Sangti on guitars, Achi on Bass and Meren on drums.

The name “The Spectrums” is an inspiration from that of the rainbows to show their principle of inclusivity and diversity, and to embrace the image of love and friendship.
“Like how a rainbow has different colors, we represent together as one,” Achi said.

Their music incorporates elements of alternative rock, metal, rock and pop and are greatly influenced and inspired by bands such as Metallica, Paramore, Europe, Guns N’ Roses and many more.

After understanding that there were very few bands in Nagaland, they decided to form the band in the hope to encourage and inspire young female musicians and to embrace women empowerment.

MTimes: Hello Spectrums! How excited are you for your debut?
Spectrums: Firstly, thank you for having us. We are so thrilled and excited that some of us are already imagining ourselves being on stage.

MTimes: Does the fact that you will be opening up for a band like ‘About Us’ in your debut performance mean anything to you?
Spectrums: We are really humbled and fortunate to be the opening act for one of the most renowned bands of Nagaland. Just being on the stage is a big opportunity for us so, to open for ‘About us’, that is just truly exciting. We surely will work hard to meet up to everyone’s expectations.

MTimes: Tell us the story behind how you all came together and decided to form the band.
Spectrums: As the saying goes, “Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up” by Oliver Wendell Holmes. We all had this thought or idea of forming an all-female band.

MTimes: Do you have any specific mentor for the band? How did you all learn to sing, play your instruments such as guitars and drums?
Spectrums: Well, we actually have a band manager and his name is Wapang Jamir. He has been guiding and helping us since the day we formed the band.
As for the next question, we all are literally self-taught.

MTimes: Do you think this can be the beginning to Mokokchung reviving the music scene?
Spectrums: Through forming this band we hope that we can contribute in reviving the music scene.

MTimes: When do you plan on releasing an original music of yours?
Spectrums: We still haven’t discussed making an original. But soon in the near future we surely will compose and release our originals.

MTimes: What are the most common misconceptions people have towards Rock Music?
Spectrums: The most common misconceptions are how people have this notion that musicians are uneducated or that rock is a waste of time and that rock songs are too loud. And People often say that playing rock music leads you nowhere which is not true at all.

MTimes: Do you have a favorite moment regarding a concert or an event you attended in Mokokchung?
Spectrums: Just being on a stage is literally our favorite moment. We get to see people having fun because of the music we deliver or perform.

MTimes: What should the people of Mokokchung expect from The Spectrums?
Spectrums: A new era of music, looking forward to breaking the stereotypical expectation from women within the music scene.
