Akhoya Village is located about 40 Kms from Mokokchung town and is located along Amguri road (NH-02) under Langpangkong Range. The village was established during the Kosasanger era comprising of both Chungli and Mongsen phratries.

 

It is held that the villagers killed a tiger on the day of the establishment of the village and the incident is tied to the origin of the name of the village. Akho is Mongsen Ao for Tiger.

 

Akhoya is bounded by Yachem and Yaongyimchen villages along the Dikhu river to the east, Changtongya and Merangkong villages to the north, Asangma and Kelingmen villages to the west, and Unger and Chuchuyimlang to the south.
