Mokokchung, 10 April (MTNews): The Tobacco Control Cell, Jubilee Memorial College (JMC), Mokokchung organized an awareness program alongside a reels making competition focusing on the detrimental effects of tobacco usage, sponsored by the Mokokchung District Tobacco Control Cell.

The event was held on 10 April in the college premises with Ms KetinenlaAmlari (BA 6th sem) as the host for the program. Dr Imtiwati Jamir, Principal of JMC, delivered the welcome speech.

Mr Nukshiwati Longchar, District Consultant of the National Tobacco Control Program, served as the resource person for the event. He shed light on the current situation of tobacco use in Nagaland, emphasizing its harmful effects and providing awareness on methods of control. Additionally, he discussed various sections of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, including Section 4, which prohibits smoking in public, and Section 6B, which regulates the sale of tobacco products around educational institutions.

The prize distribution for the inter-college and inter-school reels making competition, themed “Embrace Life, Leave Tobacco,” was conducted by Ms Chubaienla Imchen, Nodal Officer of the Tobacco Control Cell, Jubilee Memorial College. Winners in Category I (Inter-school Level) included Jubilee Memorial School (1st prize) and Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (2nd prize). In Category II (Inter-college Level), Jubilee Memorial College secured the 1st prize, followed by People’s College in 2nd place.

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms Chubaienla Imchen, Nodal Officer of the Tobacco Control Cell, Jubilee Memorial College.
