In relation to the upcoming rehabilitation work on the Road Over Bridge (ROB) near Hotel Tragopan on NH-29, the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, has issued a traffic advisory on 27th September 2024, informing that the ROB will be closed to all vehicular movement starting at 6:00 AM on 1st October 2024 until the rehabilitation work is completed.
Therefore, the following traffic diversion plan and instructions have been issued for heavy, light, and medium vehicles, with restrictions in place to ensure the smooth flow of traffic during the repair period. Key points of the advisory are as follows:
Heavy Vehicles:
1. Heavy vehicles entering Dimapur through Dillai Gate and New Field Gate, intending to proceed to Chumoukedima or Kohima, must take the Khatkati CRPF Group Centre Charali Dimapur Bypass 4-lane Highway.
2. Heavy vehicles delivering cargo to the western side of Dimapur, including Golaghat Road, GS Road, and City Tower areas, can enter via Dillai Gate and New Field Gate.
3. Cargo intended for the eastern side of Dimapur, including Nagarjan, Supermarket, and Burma Camp, must take the Khatkati CRPF bypass through Kaliram and Kushiabill villages.
4. Movement of heavy vehicles within the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) jurisdiction is restricted from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
5. All heavy vehicles, including police and paramilitary, are barred from using the flyover; however, medium-sized school buses are permitted.
Light/Medium Vehicles:
1. Light and medium vehicles heading to the western side of Dimapur from Chumoukedima/Kohima are advised to use the Thahekhu route via Nagaland Zoological Park.
2. Vehicles proceeding to Assam can take the Kushiabill or Veterinary Burma Camp route via Khatkati Check Gate.
3. All routes, except the ROB, will remain open for light and medium vehicles, with specific restrictions:
(a) Deluxe Point to Holy Cross Police Point will be one-way traffic, with two-wheeler parking only on the right-hand side.
(b) Vehicles from City Tower heading towards Holy Cross must proceed straight to Dhobinallah, and vice versa.
(c) The Khermahal to Deluxe Point route will operate as one-way traffic.
(d) GS Road from Army Supply Police Point to Durga Mandir will be two-way.
(e) Kalibari Road from Jain Temple Gate to Durga Mandir Junction will be one-way.
(f) One-way traffic will also apply from the Public College of Arts and Commerce/Fire Station to Tourist Lodge Police Point.
(g) Additionally, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, entry of commercial vehicles, including auto-rickshaws and Tata Mobiles, will be restricted at Tourist Point Flyover, Eros Lane Junction, Durga Mandir – Deluxe Point, and Dhobinallah to City Tower routes.
The Commissioner of Police has urged commuters to comply with the traffic regulations to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted traffic flow during the rehabilitation period. The advisory notes that changes may be made to the traffic plan as required based on traffic conditions.
He further informed that traffic diversion will remain in effect until the completion of the ROB rehabilitation work.
