Mokokchung, 10 January (MTNews): The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, has in an order on Wednesday announced that vehicular movement along the route from Mokokchung to Chare via Dikhu (shortcut) will be restricted starting from 12 January 2024, until the completion of the ongoing road widening project or further notification. The project, namely “Construction of widening work of existing single lane road to intermediate lane road from Mokokchung to Chare via Dikhu river in the state of Nagaland on EPC mode,” is being undertaken by UNC Construction Co. Pvt. Ltd.
The restriction is necessary as the construction company will commence earth-cutting work on high rise/steep terrains, involving the deployment of machinery and the use of explosives. The primary objective is to ensure the safety of travelers while facilitating the smooth progress of the construction work.
To accommodate essential traffic needs, the following conditions and relaxations have been specified:
Window Period for Vehicular Movement: A specific window period for vehicular movement has been established between 11:00 AM-12:30 PM and 3:00 PM-4:30 PM from Monday to Saturday. During these times, movement will be allowed to facilitate farmers and MMC sanitation trucks engaged in garbage dumping duties.
Traffic Management: UNC Construction Co. Pvt. Ltd. is mandated to manage traffic flow along the route effectively, ensuring the safety of the public using the road.
Compliance with Explosives Regulations: The construction company is required to adhere to all relevant rules outlined in The Explosives Act/Rule, 2008, during the execution of the project.
Responsibility for Damages: The construction company will be held solely responsible for any damages to life and property that may occur during the course of the project’s execution.
In light of these restrictions, travelers between Mokokchung and Tuensang are advised to utilize the alternative routes of existing NH-202 (Mokokchung to Chare via Tsutsung-Moalenden-Meyilong) or Mokokchung-Chuchuyimpang-Longmisa-Alisopur-Trongar-NH 202-Tuensang.
