Tuli town was cut off from all sides on Sunday after incessant rainfall triggered floods and landslides across Mokokchung district, disrupting road and telecommunication connectivity and forcing the evacuation of affected residents.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, Tuli was among the worst-affected areas, where floodwaters inundated parts of the town. Residents from affected localities were evacuated to safer places and temporarily rehabilitated, while relief and medical camps were established to assist those displaced by the flooding.
The district administration said no casualties had been reported at the time of issuing the press release.
Elsewhere in the district, landslides were reported at multiple locations along National Highways 2 and 702D, disrupting vehicular movement.
The administration said earth-moving machinery had been deployed to clear debris and restore connectivity. It added that the landslide between New Aokum and Tsutapela Gate on NH-702D has been cleared for the movement of small and medium vehicles, while efforts are continuing to reopen the route for heavy vehicles.
To coordinate rescue and relief operations, the district administration has activated District Emergency Operation Centres at Mokokchung, Tuli and Changtongya. Temporary relief materials have also been distributed to affected residents in Tuli.

The administration said the availability of petrol and diesel across the district has been assessed and regulated to ensure sufficient supplies for emergency response. It added that coordination is being maintained with the Sivasagar district administration in neighbouring Assam to strengthen mitigation efforts.
The district administration, in coordination with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and other line departments, said it is closely monitoring the situation as heavy rainfall continues. It urged the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with authorities and avoid circulating unverified information or rumours.
