Tuli, July 30 (MTNews): The Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland has established a Sub-Divisional Horticulture Office at Tuli which was inaugurated by Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs on Saturday.

Yanthan stated that Tuli can become an “Agro-based Industrial Hub” while delivering a brief speech during its inauguration. He noted that the region has great potential for agricultural and horticultural products due to the fertile soil and added that its proximity to Assam, a neighboring state, helps to create lucrative marketing channels and job opportunities, resulting in a sustainable economy for the locals.

 

Yanthan also urged the farmers to “abandon the ancient Jhum farming method in favour of a more contemporary one” in order to plant seeds that would do well in the particular soil type and take into account the shifting patterns of the climate.

 

He continued by asking the stakeholders to make the most use of the SDHO office, which was formed for their wellbeing.

 

He also thanked Tongpang Ozükum, Minister of Housing and Mechanical, and Amenba Yaden, Member of Legislative Assembly, for their crucial efforts.

 

The All Ward Chairman of Tuli Town, T. Nukshi Yaden, stated during a brief exhortation that while Tuli was a suitable location for development avenues, numerous other projects were driven to other remote, far regions, adding that the most of them are degrading or not in use. He continued by asking the relevant departments to oversee the town’s enormous potential for development.

 

Shaying Sheu, ADC Tuli said that it was time to make future plans and transition from subsistence to marketing farming, and he expressed hope that the farming community will profit from the transformation. He continued by challenging and pleading with the Department of Horticulture to invest in the area, noting that it would help the farmers become more self-sufficient because the region has a great deal of potential for producing a high yield.

 

Imotemjen, DHO Mokokchung delivered the Welcome Address at the program, while Dr. Imchalemla, SDHO, Tuli said the Vote of Thanks.

 

Dr. R. Elithung Lotha, Director of the Department of Horticulture in Kohima, Nagaland, presided over the event, while Rev. C. Tongpang, Pastor of Tuli Lenten, pronounced the dedicatory prayer.

 

There are now two Sub-Divisional Horticulture Offices in Mokokchung District- Mangkolemba and Tuli
