In a continued effort to tackle drug trafficking, Mokokchung Police seized a consignment of suspected opium and arrested two individuals in connection with the case on 27 August.

According to a press release issued by the office of the Additional Superintendent of Police and PRO, police detected two parcel carton boxes suspected to contain illegal substances during routine checks. Upon examination, three metal tobacco containers were found inside, each filled with a substance believed to be opium, locally known as Kani. The total weight of the suspected contraband was 78.52 grams.

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Hanuman Bhadu, 32, originally from Nokha village in Bikaner district, Rajasthan, and Diparam, 36, from Shekhasar village in the same district. Both were residing in Mongsenbai Ward, Mokokchung, at the time of the arrest.

The police have registered two regular cases under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station-1, Mokokchung. Investigation is currently underway.
