A two-day workshop on Voice Culture and Articulation, jointly organised by the National Academy of Broadcasting and Multimedia (NABM), Delhi, and Akashvani Kohima, began on Friday at Akashvani Kohima.
The workshop, organised for dialect presenters, radio jockeys and news readers, aims to enhance presentation skills, diction, news reading and the effective use of intonation, while promoting clarity, authenticity and professionalism in dialect and language broadcasting.
Akashvani Kohima Head of Office K. K. Rengma inaugurated the workshop. ADG (Training), Prasar Bharati, Rehan Ahmad Warsi, and DDG and Head of Office, NABM Delhi, Sunil Bhatia, attended the inaugural session virtually.
Programme Executive, NABM Delhi, Dr D. K. Mazumder, stressed the need to preserve the purity and authenticity of dialects broadcast by Akashvani Kohima. He said dialects carry “history, customs, emotions, worldview and collective identity” and described dialect announcers as custodians of linguistic and cultural heritage.
He highlighted diction, articulation and intonation as fundamental to effective broadcasting and urged participants to consult elders, scholars and fluent native speakers to preserve traditional expressions.
Head of Programme, Akashvani Kohima, Ella Kayina, said a similar workshop was held in 2001. She noted that Akashvani Kohima broadcasts the highest number of dialect programmes in India.
Dialect experts from tribal literature boards are participating as resource persons for programmes in 15 dialects.
